Derek Jeter Makes Leaping Catch, Takes Base Hit Away from Miguel Cabrera (VIDEO)

Even at 40 years old, the longtime Yankees shortstop still has some moves. The video below is courtesy of MLB.com.

However, Jeter and the Yankees fell to the Detroit Tigers 4-3 on Tuesday night after a duel between Hiroki Kuroda and David Price. New York faced a previous foe in Price, as he was recently acquired by the Tigers from the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yankees looked like they were in control early on. Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Yanks answered in the second inning with a home run from Brian McCann. Jacoby Ellsbury added another run in the third with an RBI double, and newcomer Martin Prado ripped a homer in the fifth. David Price trailed in his debut 3-1 after five innings.

But then the Tigers went on a run of their own. Shortstop Andrew Romine hit a home run in the sixth to bring Detroit within one run, then Alex Avila took care of the rest. The catcher delivered an RBI single off of Kuroda in the seventh to tie the game. The game then dragged on into the 12 inning after the Yankees had put in their seventh pitcher of the night; their 30th different arm used this season. Reliever Matt Daley came on in the 11th and got the final out, but New York could not capitalize in the bottom half of the inning.

Daley continued into the 12th inning, but the Tigers broke the tie with an Alex Avila home run to right center field. The Tigers took a 4-3 lead and brought in Joe Nathan to finish off New York. Chase Headley hit a deep fly ball to right center, but J.D. Martinez made the catch at the warning track. Nathan then got Martin Prado and Stephen Drew to fly out to end the game.

New York will host the Tigers on Wednesday and Thursday and will face another former Cy Young Award winner in Justin Verlander tomorrow and then youngster Rick Porcello on Thursday. You can read more about tonight's game in this ESPN recap.
