A 47-year-old man suspected of making a bomb threat hoax aboard a Qatar Airways flight has been referred for an assessment of his mental health, the Associated Press reported.
The man was examined by a medical staff and a mental health team after his arrest, Greater Manchester Police said Wednesday. The man's name has not been released.
Qatar Airways Flight 23 was carrying 269 passengers and 13 crew on the flight from Doha, Qatar before British fighter jets scrambled to escort the threatened plane. It landed Tuesday without incident at the flight's original destination: Manchestor Airport.
The crew on the Airbus A330-300 received a "threat about a possible device on board" and alerted British authorities, Qatar Airways said in a statement.
