T-Mobile announced Wednesday that it is the top wireless provider of prepaid mobile services in the US, outbidding Sprint, Verizon and AT&T.
T-Mobile, the nation's fourth largest wireless carrier is stealing the number one spot from Sprint in the US prepaid mobile market with the highest number of subscribers on its network. T-Mobile secured the top rank in the prepaid sector with its prominent 15.64 million user base, a spectacular lead against giants like Verizon and AT&T, which host 6.04 million and 11.34 million prepaid customers, respectively.
T-Mobile's prepaid offerings are clearly attractive for consumers, who helped the carrier surpass Sprint's 15.19 million customer base. The carrier has a unique way of pulling users into its network from rivals' den. T-Mobile directly offers its postpaid options for prepaid customers, which is usually not the tradition among other carriers. Prepaid users always get the pared-down and limited offers when compared with postpaid subscribers. T-Mo's extra tidbits like device financing and international roaming attracts consumers quickly.
"The good news just keeps on coming for T-Mobile," John Legere, president and CEO of T-Mobile US, said in a promising statement, Wednesday. "The momentum we're seeing with our T-Mobile and MetroPCS brands is outstanding, and the fact that we've blown by everyone to take the No.1 spot in prepaid is icing on the cake. As a matter of fact, I'm going on record-I predict we'll overtake Sprint in total customers by the end of this year. Not someday. Not next year. This year. Americans are voting with their feet, and they're joining this Un-carrier revolution by the millions."
MetroPCS was acquired by T-Mobile last year and has added over 1.2 million new customers in the last twelve months. It ranks after Sprint and AT&T in the prepaid wireless market, with a strong customer base of more than 10 million users. According to T-Mobile's blog, MetroPCS has been adding customers at an impressive rate of one customer every 27 seconds.
