Married couples should be close, but not this close.
One Brazil woman's search for her biological mother led her to the discovery that her husband was her brother, the Daily Mail reported.
Brazilian couple, Adriana, 39, and Leandro, 37, immediately connected after finding that they were both abandoned by their mother as babies. They spent years looking for their own mothers, both named Maria, never dreaming they would share the same one.
Adriana had not seen her mother since she left at just a year old. The 39-year-old woman was raised by her father. Likewise, Leandro found out when he was eight that the woman who raised him was actually his step-mother.
Leandro continued to live in his hometown within the state of Sao Paulo in southeast Brazil, while Adriana moved away to work as a housemaid. She was married for 15 years and had three children, Daily Mail reported.
But as fate would have it, the pair got together 10 years ago after Adriana's marriage fell apart, and she moved back to her hometown. They fell in love and moved in together.
After years of searching for her mother, Adriana contacted a radio station in town that specialized in finding lost relatives.
Radio Globo's "The Time is Now" was able to help Maria, according to Daily Mail. But Maria got more than she asked for at the end of the live radio interview, when her mother said she had also abandoned a son. His name was Leandro.
Adriana wept uncontrollably, saying, "I don't believe that you're telling me this. Leandro is my husband." At the end of the interview, Maria is heard sharing her concerns: "...I'm scared to go home and find out that Leandro doesn't want me anymore. I love him so much."
But, Adriana and Leandro, who were never legally married, told Radio Globo that they would stay together despite the bombshell, Daily Mail stated.
"Only death is going to separate us. All this happened because God wanted it to happen," Adriana said. "Of course, it would have been different if we had known all this before, but we didn't, and we fell in love."
The couple said they only assumed it was a coincidence that both of their mothers had the same name. Since Maria is a common name, they didn't think much about it, Daily Mail reported.
Leandro and Adriana, who have been together for seven years and have a daughter together, said they don't blame their mother for leaving them and plan to meet up with her soon.
"...We had a family meeting and told everyone that we are going to stay husband and wife, whatever anyone might think," Adriana said. "We have so many plans together. Nothing's going to stop us, nothing."
