A 16-year-old in Japan ran up a $54,000 bar tab using his father's credit card according to Examiner. The alcohol-filled evening occurred in 2010, but a judge recently ruled in favor of the minor who is not required to pay a dime.
The Examiner reported the teen and his friend traveled to local luxury hot spots with pricey entry fees and ordered bottles of the finest wines to entertain themselves and the women their American Express card attracted.
"Kyoto District Court ruled last week that bar owners and the credit card company bore the lion's share of responsibility for the misuse of the card in 2010," News reported. "The court ordered that the boys father pay 800,000 yen out of the 5.5 million yen bill his son had racked up."
There have been no reports whether or not the 16-year-old would face separate charges for using his father's card without permission or if the father punished his son for his expensive taste.
This story contradicts a story about victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, although their tabs were minuscule, paid their bar tabs. According to the Washington Times, victims returned to the restaurants and bars to pay off their debt and tip the waitresses who served them.
"It's the right thing to do, isn't it? At least in my mind it is," said David Christmas, a runner who paid his $35 tab with a $50 check.
Owners and employees rejoiced at the generosity and sincerity of the customers they served on that frightening day. The people of Boston have been trying to move on from the horror as suspect Dzhokhar Tsamaev has recently been connected to a series of 2011 murders and is awaiting trail for his involvement in the Boston Marathon bombings.
