Vizio has issued a recall to fix a safety problem it is experiencing with its 39- and 42-inch E-Series flat-screen HDTVs.
The consumer electronics company is having 245,000 of the TVs repaired because of a possibility of them tipping over, according to PC Magazine. The official recall states that the units "can fail and cause the television to tip over unexpectedly, posing a risk of impact injury to the consumer."
51 claims have been sent to Vizio of the recalled TVs falling over.
Vizio said that no injuries have taken place because of the malfunctioning TVs. However, statistics have shown that incidents in which TVs tip over have caused thousands of injuries every year, Engadget reported.
The issue doesn't directly affect people who own sets mounted on walls, but Vizio recommended that these customers ask for a replacement stand assembly along with other customers so they can use it if they need to in the future, PC Magazine reported.
The recall covers three different models, which include the 39-inch E390-B0, 39-inch Smart TV E390-B0, and the 42-inch Smart TV E420i-B0. The HDTV sets were sold between December 2013 and June 2014 at a price range of $370 and $450.
"Consumers using the stand assembly should immediately detach the stand, place the television in a safe location and contact Vizio for a replacement stand assembly," Vizio said.
In addition to the recall, Vizio will also extend its standard one-year limited warranty to two years from the day a customer buys a product from the company, PC Magazine reported. The company said it is doing so to make sure customers "can continue to enjoy their TV with full peace of mind."
