Weird Al Yankovic could be joining the list of legendary performers to hit the Super Bowl stage during halftime after a man conjured up a petition to bring the humorous songwriter on board as the main act.
Super fan Ed Ball created a Change.org petition urging the National Football Association to get the 54-year-old "Parody King" booked for the Super Bowl halftime show, according to FOX Sports. As of Thursday, the petition has already gained nearly 75,000 signatures.
"For decades Weird Al has entertained fans, young and old, with his popular, clever parodies and unique sense of humor," Ball stated in the petition. "Having him headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show would not only be overly accepted by the millions of views, but it would remain true to the standards and quality of the show business we have come to love and respect out of this prestigious event."
In the petition, the Seattle resident even suggested that the singer-songwriter hit the stage with the very artists he's parodied. Weird Al Yankovic has parodied acts like Michael Jackson, Madonna and most recently Lorde and Pharrell Williams.
"The songs of artists that he is parodying could join him on stage to accompany, as well as other surprise appearances from well-known actors/actresses, adding more prestige and star power," Ball added. "The theatrics alone would be hilarious and a welcoming change, and draw a wider audience of fans that typically would not tune into the championship game or half-time show."
Ball recently admitted that he was drunk when he started the petition, but has expressed joy over the number of participants and has set a goal of 150,000 signatures.
Weird Al Yankovic is enjoying the success of his current album, "Mandatory Fun," which was released last month and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200. He said the record will be his last LP.
The Super Bowl XLIX is scheduled to air on Feb. 1, 2015, in Glendale, Ariz.
