Maroon 5 and MTV have called a truce.
Frontman Adam Levine and his bandmates have signed on to perform at this year's MTV Video Music Awards - making the appearance the group's first-ever performance on the annual show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
MTV took to Twitter Wednesday to announce that the band will take the stage during the live broadcast to perform a song from their upcoming fifth album "V," which is scheduled for release on Sept. 2. The post included a picture of Levine gazing down at a Moonman award.
Maroon 5 also confirmed the news in a statement posted on their official Facebook page, writing, "We are so excited about our upcoming new album and to be part of the great VMA lineup this year. It is our first time doing the show and we are thrilled to be on it performing our new single."
The news comes almost three years after Levine slammed the MTV Video Music Awards by tweeting, "The VMAs [are the] one day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I'm drawing a line in the sand. F--k you, VMAs."
Thirty minutes later, her expressed his thoughts on his previous post, writing, "Still waiting to have my 'Jerry Maguire mission statement moment of deep regret.' Not happening. Phew!"
In an interview with E! News, Levine said that many of his fellow musicians felt the same way he did but refuse say anything, adding, "It's public knowledge that it's not a music channel. It's become a huge promotional opportunity for artists, which is a good thing. I think that great artists were there and they were represented and there could have been more."
The group took home a Moonman in 2004 for Best New Artist and Best Group Video, and most recently in 2012 for Best Pop Video for "Payphone" in 2007.
Previously announced performers for the show include Usher, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Usher and 5 Seconds of Summer.
The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Inglewood, Calif., on Sunday, Aug. 24 at 9 p.m.
