California police killed 2 people who used a 15-year-old girl as a human shield in connection with a marijuana-growing operation in Fresno.
According to Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Sims, two other people, 23-year-old Sergio Hernandez and 31-year-old Chi Tang, involved in the crime, were arrested and three remained at large.
Officials responded to a call at a house in the 5100 block of South Orange Avenue about 4:10 a.m. The complainants believed that there were intruders in the house. Lt. Louis Hernandez with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said that the suspects identified themselves as law enforcement officers to the residents of the house. However, the residents were not satisfied by their claims and doubted their identity, reports The Los Angeles Times.
The suspects then forced themselves inside and a gun battle ensued between the residents and the intruders. They later took the teenage girl as hostage.
According to Sims, after arriving at the scene the deputies heard the sound of gunfire. Two cars sped past them and the officials were able to intercept one. They found a wounded man in a ski mask in the car. In the other car, the suspects took the girl. However, they set her free near downtown Fresno.
Another robber found near the house later died of gunshot wounds, reports the Associated Press.
The arrested suspects might face charges of kidnapping, home invasion robbery, two counts of attempted murder, use of weapon in commission of felony and felony evading, according to Techsonia.
Marijuana worth $50,000 was stolen from a Seattle dispensary, Wednesday. Authorities said that the robbery happened in the 5000 block of East Marginal Way South at 6:50 a.m. They found that a large hole had been cut into the side of the business, police said. They also noticed scattered marijuana across the dispensary.
