Google announced Thursday that it is making a change to its Street View feature to help high school students find the college that fits them best.
Street View now includes 36 new universities across the U.S. and Canada, including Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., the University of Miami, and the University of Regina in Canada, according to PC Magazine.
"Whether you're a college applicant or a curious parent getting to know your kid's new home away from home, Street View can take you on a walking tour of schools around the world," Deanna Yick, program manager at Street View, wrote in a blog post.
Street View already features hundreds of colleges around the world that students and parents can learn about on Google Maps, BetaNews reported. By clicking on the small yellow Pegman on Maps and typing in the Street View imagery, users can go on a tour of their prospective universities.
Students and parents can also obtain information about schools at the search giant's Street View gallery, where they can get a look at global highlights and popular colleges around the world, PC Magazine reported.
"So if you can't make it in person, Street View can help you get a feel of the place you're considering spending the next four years," Yick wrote. "And for you parents out there, this might help you get used to the idea of an empty nest!"
The new universities are the latest addition to Street View, following the addition of the World Cup stadiums in June. Other recent changes to Street View include Google's first mapping of a cruise ship, as well as the addition of a new time travel feature that lets users see how places have changed over time.
