Residents of a quaint town in the U.K. are scrambling to find a $20,000 diamond that literally fell from space.
The 1.14-carat diamond was attached to a helium balloon and launched hundreds of thousands of feet into space from a field in Derbyshire County, England, as part of a London-based jeweler's PR stunt, the Metro reported.
Once the balloon reached a height of 100,000 feet it burst into smithereens, sending the precious jewel back to Earth. It landed somewhere in a 5-mile radius in the small village of Lea, Lincolnshire County, according to a GPS device that was attached to the diamond.
"So 250 miles in 2 days and nearly every single public road east of the river traveled," Will tweeted Friday @UkPacmanchamp.
77 Diamonds promised to send out a tweet as soon as the diamond is found.
"If I lived in Lincolnshire, I would turn every stone and I would search everywhere to find that diamond!" Andrew Karipis tweeted.
