Mixed martial arts fighter War Machine is being trailed by Las Vegas police after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend over the weekend, leaving her so badly beaten that she was hospitalized, Gawker reported.
War Machine - whose real name is Jon Koppenhaver - split town after his porn star girlfriend Christy Mack and a third, unnamed person were beaten in an altercation on Friday. Both parties had to be hospitalized, with Mack allegedly left unable to speak from a broken jaw and eye socket.
Koppenhaver appeared on the FOX show "Ultimate Fighter" and was signed to an MMA tournament agency called Bellator. In a statement to TMZ, Bellator's president said Koppenhaver's contract has been terminated.
"We have a zero-tolerance policy here at Bellator when it relates to any form of domestic violence, and after learning of this latest incident involving (Jon Koppenhaver) War Machine, Bellator is releasing him from his promotional contract with the organization."
This isn't the fighter's first run-in with the law. He was convicted of assault after a bar fight in San Diego in 2010. He was also arrested on felony domestic assault charges in 2009, Gawker reported.
According to Twitter, this event does not seem to be the first time Koppenhaver has hit Mack. She tweeted in November 2013 that her boyfriend "threatened to kill her," The Daily News reported.
"He full-on beat the s**t out of me, couldn't show my face in public beating," Mack tweeted.
Before long, she deleted the tweets after Koppenhaver tweeted that the whole thing was a joke. Mack then tweeted in December that she stayed with the fighter after "several slapping, choking unconscious, smothering, kicking and throwings."
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assaults by an intimate partner every year. Statistics report that one in every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes.
