Couple Falls to Death While Taking Selfie on a Cliff

A couple from Poland plunged to its deaths from a cliff in Portugal while taking a selfie with their children, Saturday.

The incident happened at the cliff edge at Cabo de Roca, a popular tourist destination near Portuguese capital Lisbon. The couple reportedly slipped off the cliff edge while posing with their 5 and 6-year-old for a selfie.

Officials recovered the bodies from the Atlantic Ocean Monday, two days after the incident because of the poor weather conditions, reports NBC News.

According to Polish media, the couple was staying in Portugal for the past few years. The children of the deceased couple are in the custody of Polish diplomats and are being counseled by psychologists.

With the selfie craze increasing, incidences of people accidentally killed have also spiked. The couple's unfortunate death is more or less similar to that of a 16-year-old Italian girl who fell to her death while taking a selfie on the seafront during a school trip to Taranto town in south-eastern Italy in June.

Just over a week back, a 21-year-old man from Mexico City shot himself by accident while taking a selfie to post on his Facebook account, according to news.com.au. Oscar Aguilar was unaware that the gun was loaded. He died on his way to hospital.

According to the Mirror, a 19-year-old boy diagnosed with body dysmorphic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder, developed a selfie addiction in which he took at least 200 photos selfies in a day.

In 2013, researchers at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor found youngsters and middle-aged adults who scored higher for particular narcissistic traits posted frequently on social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter.
