Houston Police Chase Results in 6 Deaths

A police chase resulted in a deadly car crash that killed six people, Sunday night in Houston. Among those killed were a teen, his parents and uncle.

The incident happened after the Dickinson police tried to pull over a Dodge Durango sports utility vehicle that was veering and driving without headlights and the speeding driver rammed into the other car. The driver of the car, 23-year-old Juan Garcia Ahuezoteco, sped up to about 100 mph (160 kph) after the officer put his emergency lights on, Dickinson Police Captain Jay Jaekel said, reports Reuters.

The drivers and the passengers in both the cars died after the crash. "He was going so fast my guy couldn't keep up," Jaekel said Monday.

The officials said that Ahuezoteco had an outstanding felony warrant for driving while intoxicated. Another passenger Alejandro Molina was also found dead.

According to Reuters, the victims in the other vehicle, a Honda Accord, were identified as Rafael Guerrero, 41, and his wife Alejandra Guerrero, 38; their 15-year-old son; and the boy's uncle, Gilberto Ortega, Jr. 25.

The oldest son the family, Sebastian, was not in the car. It is believed he spent hours trying to track his family. "I was in my house, I was trying to call my mom, dad and uncle," Sebastian Yanez said, reports KHOU.com. "I called them three times and no one answered, then I got a call from the League City Police Department and that's how I got the news."

A witness Blanca Medina said, "The lights went off maybe an hour and a half after this happened because two trees were caught on fire." Medina said she helped a family member of the victims who arrived at the scene. "We just stayed with him, to help him--to translate for him."
