Canadian Woman Climbs Airport's Barbed Wire Fence to Stop Plane

Talk about a determined woman!

A woman is said to have climbed a barbed wire fence at Canada's Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Sunday to stop a plane she thought was carrying her husband, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman said, according to CNN.

The woman climbed over a 10-foot security fence with angled barb wire around 8:30 a.m., said Peter Spurway, the airport's communications vice president.

"Her intent was to stop the aircraft from taking off," said Sgt. Al LeBlanc. "She jumped the security fence, but she was nowhere near the aircrafts."

The woman, who was in the airfield for 10 minutes, was apprehended by the airport staff and the Mounted Police after being spotted by the aircraft control tower.

"We had a small aircraft in the area and the traffic control tower rerouted the aircraft," Spurway said.

The 37-year-old woman told police she jumped over the fence to stop her husband, who she thought was on the plane. LeBlanc said the woman's husband was not a passenger on any type of plane.

"This is a very unusual type of incident. I had never heard of such an incident before in my many years as an officer," LeBlanc said.

The woman lives in Fall River, just southwest of the airport. Police took the woman to the hospital for a medical assessment since she suffered minor injuries from scaling the fence, CNN reported.

The airport is conducting a full review of their security measures, Spurway said. "This is a very rare occurrence. I have been here over eight years and this has never happened," he said.

Criminal charges against the woman are unlikely, according to CNN.
