Manchester United has established a new rule that prohibits fans from bringing iPads to its stadium, Old Trafford.
The ban was announced in an email sent to supporters before Tuesday night's game against Valencia, instructing fans of the soccer club to leave tablets and similar devices at home, according to The Guardian.
"Supports cannot bring large electronic devices...inside the stadium," the email reads. "For example, iPads or other tablet devices and laptops are now prohibited. Also please be aware that large bags, large cameras and liquids (with the exception of a small bottle of water with the top removed) are included in our list of prohibited items."
While blocking fans' views is a major concern with iPads, the club is mostly focused on keeping supporters from recording matches, the Daily Mail reported.
The move is not the first time that iPads have been banned from a stadium, as the device was banned by the New York Yankees in 2010. However, the baseball team reversed the decision two years later.
Additional items that have been banned from Old Trafford include canned drinks, dark plastic bottles, drink cartons, drinking glasses, glass bottles, flasks, water in excess of 500 ml, baby carriages, camcorders, darts, fireworks, flares, knives and weapons, The Guardian reported. Fans are also prohibited from bringing large bags or suite cases, large umbrellas, flags or banners greater than a certain size or of an offensive nature, poles, sticks, tools, radios, smoke or gas canisters and telescopic or long-lens cameras.
Despite the long list of banned items, there are still items that fans are allowed to bring to matches, Daily Mail reported. Such items include small-lens cameras, non-offensive flags or banners up to a certain size, small fold-up umbrellas, small bags and backpacks, and clear plastic bottles of water 500 ml or less without the top.
