A sinkhole swallowed a car parked in the lot of a Pittsburgh Hollywood Tans salon on Tuesday at 4p.m., NBC reported.
The salon's owner helped rescue the driver, 49-year-old Natalie Huddleston, through the passenger window, but the entire car disappeared underwater within minutes.
"I got in the car, I backed up, I felt a thunk, and all of a sudden I was tilted and I felt movement, I was swaying, I kept drifting back and realized I was stuck in this hole," Huddleston told We Are Central PA.
The tanning salon was evacuated, but no injuries were reported, according to NBC. Work crews believe the sinkhole was caused by a 48-60 inch storm drain runoff pipe that collapsed during heavy rain.
Emergency crews shut down the busy area full of malls and businesses.
"I'm in shock, this is not happening, my car is gone," Huddleston told TV station KDKA.
