The 2014-2015 NBA schedule will be released tonight, but some of the details have been leaked before the official announcement. These include the Christmas Day matchups and any significant matchup involving LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
The NBA 2014-15 Schedule Release Special will take place at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday evening, but not before some of the details were exposed. James Herbert of CBS Sports wrote just a few hours ago that LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers will host Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks on October 30, which will be the first time James isn't a part of NBA's opening night since 2007.
It's rumored that the season opener will take place on October 28 in San Antonio where the Spurs will battle their in-state rivals, the Dallas Mavericks, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers hosting the Houston Rockets in the later game. October 29 will feature Carmelo Anthony's Knicks, as they'll host the Chicago Bulls at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks will then travel to face James and the Cavaliers on October 30, which will be Cleveland's season opener. That same night, the Clippers will host the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Staples Center. Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears and Adrian Wojnarowski reported the matchups.
The Christmas Day matchups were also leaked earlier on Wednesday, and according to several reports, the schedule is as followed: New York Knicks vs. Washington Wizards; Chicago Bulls vs. Los Angeles Lakers; Miami Heat vs. Cleveland Cavaliers; Los Angeles Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors; and San Antonio Spurs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder. Although the first two matchups merely involve teams (Knicks and Lakers) that follow the tradition of playing on Christmas, the other games have interesting implications.
The Heat will host the Cavaliers in LeBron James' return to Miami since leaving his former team to return to his former former team. The matchup should be interesting as he faces off against friends and ex-teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The Clippers will welcome the Warriors to the Staples Center in a rematch of a 2014 first round Western Conference playoff matchup. The Clippers won the series in seven games. And lastly, the Spurs will host the Thunder in a rematch of the 2014 Western Conference Finals, in which the Spurs emerged after six games and then went on to defeat the Miami Heat in five games to become NBA champions.
Tune in to NBA TV tonight at 6 p.m. to watch the NBA 2014-15 Schedule Release Special.
