Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine was clearly frustrated on NBC's "The Voice." During Tuesday night's top 8 episode two of his three remaining singers were voted off. R & B hopeful Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons were sent home, much to Levine's disapproval. Country singer Amber Carrington was saved from elimination.
To express his frustration Levine muttered "I hate this country" which was picked up on the hot-mic, NewsMax reports.
Many people immediately took to Twitter to criticize Levine for his sarcastic remark.
"Adam Levine just said 'I hate this country' on TV... Not a smart move dude, not smart at all. #america," one Twitter user posted about the comment.
Another tweeted "Does @adamlevine get deported for saying 'I hate this country' on the voice tonight? Lol hey US we'll trade you for Bieber!"
Some speculated that Levine was simply reacting to America voting off his two frontrunners while others said his comment was referring to country music. Either way Levine sort of defended his remark by tweeting several dictionary definitions.
Each week, contestants with the lowest votes are eliminated from the show. People can either vote via phone calls, texts and online through NBC.com, the Zeebox app, the NBC app and "The Voice" Live Facebook app. In 2011, the show became the first U.S. televised singing competition to allow ITunes sales to count as votes, Mashable reports.
The elimination left Levine with one contestant, country singer Amber Carrington; Shakira with Sasha Allen; and Usher with Michelle Chamuel. Blake Shelton is the only coach left with three contestants Danielle Bradbery, Holly Tucker and The Swon Brothers.
