Amazon is helping developers create fully-functional mobile apps with its all-new "Live App Testing" tool.
Amazon, the biggest online retailer, is helping developers by saving them from the embarrassment of launching an app that may crash or report errors when out in the real world. With Amazon's latest Live App Testing, apps undergo a series of pre-defined tests before going live on app stores such as Amazon Appstore for Android and Google Play Store.
The new tool will help developers test the apps' beta versions. If the app fails to complete the tests, developers can modify the codes and make necessary adjustments before releasing it to the general public. This will save the developers from bad reviews and improve the chances of a successful launch.
With Live App Testing, developers can invite select testers by sending them an email with instructions to download. The testing will take place in a closed network, preventing anyone without an invite to download and use the app. Developers can build apps for both Android and Amazon Fire devices and testers must mandatorily own at least one of the gadgets.
"The testers will be able to sample the full suite of Amazon services - including in-app purchasing - against our production environment, so you can make ensure your app is working as expected," Amazon's Paul Cutsinger explained in the company's official blog post, Wednesday. "This allows you to gather feedback, improve quality, increase stability and optimize the experience before you push your app live for all customers to download."
Amazon laid out step-by-step instructions on how to take advantage of the Live App Testing tool. Developers must log in to their accounts and go to the tool's tab to get started. Add metadata about the app and the APK that needs to be tested. Developers can upload improved versions of the app without submitting a new app.
Developers will also have access to the progress of the app's test and record the number of crashes the app has reported. After finally testing the app to perfection, developers can publish on Amazon store and Android app market for all users to download.
