A car chase between a truck loaded with dogs and several animal rights activists saved thousands of dogs from being slaughtered at one of China's major dog meat markets this week, according to the Human Society International.
According to the HSI:
On Sunday, a Chinese girl who belongs to an activist group that is partnered with the HSI saw a truck filled with more than 400 dogs on the Beijing Harbin Expressway heading for Jilin, one of China's largest dog markets. She immediately tweeted what she saw, and within an hour 30 animal rights activists showed up in their cars, chasing the truck and attempting to negotiate with the driver. The Capital Animal Welfare Association contacted law enforcement officials who found the driver had fraudulent documents.
When the truck was stopped, 400 dogs were found aboard the truck. Some dogs on board were wearing collars which suggest the possibility they may have been stolen.
Within days 3,280 dogs were rescued.
