Alveda King, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s niece, said on Fox News on Tuesday that Rev. Al Sharpton's recent appearance in Ferguson, Mo., has caused an increase in unrest in the city, according to Media ITE.
Citizens in Ferguson are protesting following the death of Mike Brown, 18, who was unarmed when he was shot by police last weekend.
"When Al Sharpton comes, sometimes I don't know what his goal is, but people continue to riot and things escalate," King said on Fox and Friends, according to Media ITE. "And so I'm asking now-speak people, Reverend Sharpton. Speak love. Speak justice. But you can have justice without violence."
She added that she is unsure of what the reverend's goals are, but peaceful conflict resolution along with prayer needs to replace rioting. King said this is what she does in her pro-life groups.
"This action is wrong; I'm saddened by seeing our young people attacked like this. There must be justice. His dream has been taken away, he's been killed," King said.
Ferguson Mayor James Knowles has also expressed concern that Sharpton would turn the events in the city into a spectacle.
Brown was shot on Saturday while he was walking down the street with his friend Dorian Johnson.
