809-Pound Shark Becomes Unique Meal for Texas Homeless

More than 90 poor and homeless people in Texas "caught" a meal of a lifetime when they chowed down on a 809-pound tiger shark that was donated to Timon's Ministries, according to The Associated Press.

The 12-foot, 7-inch shark, caught in the Gulf of Mexico early this month, provided 75 pounds of meat and was the biggest fish ever donated to Timon's Ministries, which provides food, clothing and health care for the poor, executive director Kae Berry said.

Ryan Spring of San Antonio originally caught the enormous shark, saying it took him more than seven hours to wrangle. Nearly a dozen men had to lend a hand to haul the monster shark onto the dock, according to CBS DFW.

"It was a hard fight the whole time. I was wondering, 'What do I have on here?' I just had to push through – dig down and find that energy to keep going," Spring told KRLD.

The shark meat was breaded and baked by a volunteer chef, with Berry saying "most people really enjoyed it."

Others in need will have a chance to get a taste since there's enough leftovers to make some shark stew next week, Timon's Minitries said.
