Brittany Murphy's father, Angelo Bertolotti, isn't happy about Lifetime's upcoming biopic of his late daughter.
Lifetime announced on Wednesday that actress Amanda Fuller has been cast to play the role of Murphy in the two-hour feature titled "The Brittany Murphy Story" - a film based on the life of the late actress, who died in December 2009 at the age of 32 from pneumonia and other causes.
However, according to Radar Online, Bertolotti was not consulted about the film. He is reportedly threatening to sue the network with claims stating that Lifetime does not have the rights to "take artistic liberties with his daughter's life."
"Lifetime has not been authorized to produce the true story of Brittany Murphy," Bertolotti told Radar Online. "I should have been consulted. I intend to litigate Lifetime in a court of law."
Bertolotti has previously stated that his daughter's death continues to be an ongoing investigation. He ordered a new toxicology report earlier this year, which indicates that foul play was a factor in his daughter's death.
The "Clueless" star died December 20, 2009 after she was found collapsed in the bathroom of the Hollywood Hills home. A coroner stated that Murphy died "of pneumonia with secondary factors of iron-deficiency anemia and multiple prescription drug intoxication." Her husband Simon Monjack died five months later from identical causes.
A spokesperson for the actress' mother, Sharon Murphy, also stated that she was not consulted about the film and has not cooperated with the production.
The upcoming movie will focus on Murphy's younger years, "including her mother's efforts to turn her talented daughter into a star in the 1980s and '90s," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sherilyn Fenn will play Murphy's mother.
