Florida Man Tells Judge His Name is 'Ima Thief'

Talk about a tell-tale name.

A Florida man, who allegedly stole two televisions, made the judge burst out laughing when he said his name was "Ima Thief," according to NBC 6 Miami.

"You're Ima Thief, sir?" Broward Judge John Fry asked while chuckling.

"Yes, sir," Thief replied.

Thief appeared in bond court Thursday for allegedly walking out of a store in Sunrise, Fla., with more than $1,000 worth of TVs, according to Sunrise police.

"I'm going to call you Mr. Ima, okay? Alright," Judge Fry said.

According to police, Thief had two televisions and other merchandise in his cart and attempted to leave a store until security met him at the door and told him to go back inside.

Thief refused and and refused again when police arrived, but this time he tried to get away from them, according to police.

But Ima Thief doesn't seem to be the man's real name.

When apprehended, the man refused to identify himself and only said he was 34-years-old and his name was Ima Thief, NBC 6 Miami reported.

"The name and date of birth are fictitious and only provided in order for the subject to be processed at the Broward Sheriff's Office jail," Officer Andrew Hydes said in an arrest affidavit.

Thief is facing charges of grand theft and resisting an officer, while also being held on a no-bond probation violation warrant from a burglary, NBC Miami reported.

If convicted, Thief faces up to five years in prison, according to Hussein and Webber.

"I do sincerely wish you the best of luck," Judge Fry said. "I just wasn't really anticipating seeing this name."
