Another small child has fallen victim to a custodial dispute - this time in Maryland.
Frederick Roy Miller died in a gunfight with Prince George's County police officers and a Maryland state trooper after he allegedly shot and stabbed his 3-year-old daughter, according to Reuters.
Additionally, the 38-year-old father allegedly shot and wounded the girl's maternal grandfather and great-grandmother on Saturday while attempting to kidnap his daughter, said authorities in Prince George's County near Washington D.C.
Police arrived and spotted Miller grabbing his daughter and jumping into his Nissan Altima. They pursued his car and exchanged gunfire with Miller several times during the chase.
He died from his wounds, but not before allegedly shooting and stabbing his little girl to death, according to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Police approached the car to find Miller's daughter suffering from a gunshot and stab wound.
She was taken to a local hospital and later announced dead. The grandfather and great-grandmother remain in critical condition.
No officers were wounded during the pursuit.
This is not the only recent attack on a child by a parent. Earlier this month an Oregon woman named Jessica Smith was accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter and severely cutting her teenage daughter in a northern coast hotel room, according to the Associated Press.
