After suffering injuries while practicing with Team USA, Paul George and DeMarcus Cousins continue to nurse their injuries, while Golden State Warriors point guard Shaun Livingston had surgery on Wednesday and will miss 6-8 weeks.
Indiana Pacers forward Paul George suffered a compound fracture of his lower right leg over two weeks ago during a Team USA basketball scrimmage. His expected recovery is between 12 and 18 months after doctors successfully completed the operation on August 2 to repair the injury. George spoke to the media on Friday - the first time since he was taken off the court in a stretcher.
"I plan on making a full recovery coming back from this," George said at a news conference, via this ESPN article. "I'm taking this in a positive way. I get to sit back and watch the game -- and just learn."
Less than two weeks after George's injury, Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins injured his knee during Team USA practice when he collided with Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans. Cousins underwent an MRI last week and no structural damage was found, but he was still held out of Saturday night's exhibition game against Brazil in Chicago. He's currently listed as day-to-day with a left thigh contusion.
"It's better than (Thursday), so that's a good sign," said Cousins, speaking of his injury, in this ESPN article. "Just gradually trying to get through the pain. It's going to be a process. As the days go on it should get better." He expects to play against the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
Outside of Team USA action, Golden State Warriors guard Shaun Livingston received arthroscopic surgery on his right big toe on Wednesday and the team says he's expected to miss 6-8 weeks. Livingston was diagnosed with a sprained toe last week and was put in a cast, but surgery was essential to remove debris from the affected area. Golden State signed Livingston this summer to a three-year $16 million deal in the offseason and snatched him away from the Brooklyn Nets. They're hoping to get him back by mid-October.
