BlackBerry rolled out a major update to its BBM app on Windows Phone platform, finally dropping the beta tag.
The Canadian smartphone maker opened its BBM app to the third largest mobile computing platform, Windows Phone. The instant messaging app has finally come out of beta test phase, unleashing the full-fledged app to all WP users. BBM for Windows Phone version 1.01 features several bug fixes and performance improvements that were identified during beta testing, BlackBerry announced in one of its blog posts last week.
BlackBerry released the BBM app for Windows Phone in July in beta form. After more than a month of testing, the app is now complete, with all BBM features such as groups, multi person chats and broadcast messages. Overall, the app features a clean-cut and colorful UI, mainly to match the Windows Phone platform.
With the updated BBM app, Windows Phone users can share tests, voice notes, photos and location with one or more BBM users at once. The app also features BBM Groups to help users organize contacts into different categories like family, friends and colleagues.
The WP version of the app does not match up to the Android and iOS versions, as it lacks BBM Channels, voice or video calling and Glympse integration. Users of the BBM Beta app on Windows smartphones will see a significant improvement in terms of speed and response. The latest update also applies a fix for Spanish users, who sometimes got the English version.
But with support for Windows Phone it is likely to attract a decent amount of users. Beta users of the app can update BBM to enjoy the latest version. New users can download the updated app from Windows Phone Store.
