Ford Issues Recall For 160,000 Focus STs And Escapes After Issue With Wire Harnesses Surfaces

The recalls of 2014 continue with Ford Motor Company announcing that it is pulling back about 160,000 of its Focus STs and Escapes.

The recall covers models from years 2013 and 2014, and is due to an issue with the wire harnesses that could result in the vehicle stalling, according to USA Today. Only cars in North America with 2.0-liter engines are included in the recall.

Since some of the harnesses weren't made properly, defective signals could be sent to the powertrain control module, which might cause the engine malfunction indicator light to come on. The engine could also lose power or stall at any time, putting the driver in danger of getting into a serious crash.

Despite the issues presented by malfunctioning harnesses, the problem can be fixed by replacing the wiring splices, The Next Digit reported.

The ST and Escape recall is not the only one to be issued recently by the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker. Another recall covers 1,300 2015 Transit vans due to a possible leak of fluid liquids.

The company also called back 610 new Transit cargo vans from the 2015 model year, because an epoxy reinforcement is missing in the windowless sliding doors, which could result in the doors unlatching if the car is hit from the side, USA Today reported. 1,300 new 2015 Lincoln MKC compact crossovers have also been recalled, since some of the windshields may have bubbled where air is trapped. Ford will have the windshields replaced.

Fortunately, as with the other three recalls, no accidents or injuries have been reported for the ST and Escape call back.
