Given the two preseason games from Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Mark Sanchez, coach Chip Kelly didn't rule out trading the signal caller for the right offer. Sanchez, whom the New York Jets cut in the offseason, could attract suitors heading into the regular season.
Granted it being a small sample, Sanchez appears to have improved from his past few seasons. He has looked like a different quarterback playing in Kelly's system, completing 18 of 22 passes for 207 yards, two touchdowns and one interception through two preseason games.
The turnaround could have teams calling Philadelphia about Sanchez before the regular season starts, be it from lack of confidence in their own starting quarterback or a preseason injury.
If that happens, Kelly admitted he would consider moving the backup signal caller for the right price.
"I mean, we'll listen to anything for anybody. We're not just going to put our head in the sand and say 'no,'" Kelly said Sunday, via CSN Philly. "It better be a pretty good deal in terms of what it is. But that's not in any of our thought process."
Kelly added he hasn't yet been contacted by any teams about Sanchez.
"Mark has played well, but we haven't had anybody call or ask us anything," Kelly told reporters. "That's not something we're talking about. because you're just spending time on things that could happen, should happen. I don't know. But I know we're really happy about him."
Although a quarterback's performance in the preseason isn't the strongest indicator of his improvement, Sanchez has played well enough during training camp practices that Kelly believes the ex-Jet can lead the offense if something happens to starting quarterback Nick Foles.
"I feel very, very confident in our quarterback situation, probably better than a lot of teams going into it because I think we've got two guys right now that have actually played in games," Kelly said. "Mark's got [62] games under his resume and he's playing at a really high level right now, and obviously Nick's coming off an outstanding season last year. So we feel real confident. But I'm also a big guy that you better have two quarterbacks in this league.
"I think unless something blows you out of the water, we're real confident with Mark."
