43 Percent of Americans Never Unplug From Technology

A survey conducted by Civic Science found that 43 percent of Americans never unplug from their personal technology.

Surveyers asked Americans over 13 about the personal technology they own, how often they are connected, what other hobbies they have and what their overall happiness is.

The results found 43 percent of Americans never unplug from their smartphones, tablets, TVs and computers, among other electronic devices. Another 17 percent of Americans only completely unplug a few times a year, the survey shows.

When researchers took a closer look at those who never disconnect from technology, they found some demographic and ethnic similarities. The majority of people who reportedly never unplug, aged from 18-24, categorize themselves as Asian or Pacific, work in service roles (such as firefighters, wait staff and child care), and say they are very unhappy.

The survey also found that never unplugging correlates with participants reporting difficulty sleeping, not exercising and having passions that require the use of electronic devices, such as movies and TV.
