UFC announced Monday that heavyweight Ruslan Magomedov will not be fighting newcomer Richard Odoms at UFC 177.
Odoms has been forced out of his fight, and UFC officials said Magomedov will not compete against a replacement at the event, according to MMAjunkie. Magomedov will fight at an upcoming card that has not been determined yet.
Magomedov, a 27-year-old fighter from Russia, holds a 12-1 record in MMA, having won his first and only fight in the UFC against Viktor Pesta via decision at UFC Fight Night 41. He also beat fighters like former UFC heavyweight champions Tim Silvia, Mike Hayes and Ricco Rodriguez to earn a contract with the fighting promotion.
Odoms fought for Legacy FC in Texas before joining the UFC. The 39-year-old police officer holds an 8-1 record in MMA, having lost to Jared Rosholt, who would later go on to join the UFC. However, Odoms won his most recent fight against D.J. Linderman via decision, MMAjunkie reported.
Magomedov vs. Odoms has been replaced by a lightweight bout between Yancy Medeiros and Justin Edwards, which was originally supposed to take place on the preliminary card of UFC 177. Medeiros, who used to fight for Strikeforce, holds a 9-2 record in MMA, and is looking for his first win in the UFC after losing his first two fights in the company. Edwards currently holds an 8-4 record, and is looking to win his upcoming bout; he lost two straight fights to Brandon Thatch and Ramsey Nijem.
Medeiros vs. Edwards will be the first fight on the main card, and will be followed by Carlos Diego Ferreira vs. Ramsey Nijem, Shayna Baszler vs. Bethe Correia and Danny Castillo vs. Tony Ferguson, with the main event being T.J. Dillashaw defending his bantamweight title against Renan Barao, MMAjunkie reported.
UFC 177 will be held at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento on Aug. 30. The prelims will be shown on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass, and fighting fans will be able to watch the main card on pay-per-view.
