Ant-Man director Peyton Reed kicked off production for the new Marvel film on Monday, and fans already have their first look at Paul Rudd as his character Scott Lang.
Rudd stands under the Golden Gate Bridge and looks a little beat up. Dressed in plain clothes rather than his Ant-Man uniform, he has a stitch above his right eye and wears his black hoodie up. Rudd carries a black, leather knapsack and stands in front of an old Ford passenger van.
The character Scott Lang will assume the role as Ant-Man in the Marvel feature. Dr. Hank Pym originally handled the responsibilities of the tiny superhero. Michael Douglas will play Pym in the movie.
The film's director Reed took over the helm after Edgar Wright, who wrote the original script, dropped out of the project due to creative differences. "Alright, gang. Today is the day. LET'S. GET. small," Reed tweeted from set on Aug. 18.
The first day of production also brought some new names to the cast. Marvel announced Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, rapper T.I. and comedian Gregg Turkington would join Rudd, Douglas, Corey Stoll and Evangeline Lilly on set.
The studio also added John Slattery's name to the casting list. Slattery already starred in the Marvel universe as Howard Stark in Iron Man 2. He could be reprising that role in a flashback scene that may occur during the movie's first act.
Early drafts have Pym meeting with Stark, Peggy Carter, Armin Zola and a young Alexander Pierce (the older version played by Robert Redford in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"), according to Latino Review.
With the addition of Peggy Carter in the scene, the movie could connect with the upcoming ABC TV show "Marvel's Agent Carter" that will premiere midseason. Marvel made a similar connection at the conclusion of "Captain America 2" which segued into the ABC series "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
