'Flappy Bird' Developer's New Game: 'Swing Copters'

Fans of "Flappy Bird" will be happy to know that creator Dong Nguyen will release a new game called "Swing Copters."

Players will have to tap on the screen to move a bug-eyed creature through gates and swinging mallets, according to PC Magazine. While "Flappy Bird" players move characters from side to side, "Swing Copters" players push charcaters upwards and have to avoid targets to win points and advance past levels.

"Just getting through the gates themselves would be tricky enough, but adding in the swinging hammer things below them is just ridiculous," said Eli Hodapp of TouchArcade. "Particularly as you're desperately trying to control your guy as he wildly swings from one direction to the other."

The announcement of the new game follows Nguyen's decision to stop selling "Flappy Bird" at the Apple Store earlier this year, despite the game reportedly making $55,000 in ad revenue daily, Mashable reported. He said that while the game received a great amount of praise by fans, he couldn't deal with the stresses that came with developing the game.

"Flappy Bird" has also received comparisons to David McCandless's "The Helicopter Game," which came out in 2000. McCandless called the game "another rip of my helicopter game" on Twitter.

However, "Flappy Bird" rejoiced on Aug. 1 when the game made its return as "Flappy Birds Family," which comes with a two-player option, PC Magazine reported.

"Swing Copters" will be available starting Aug. 21 and will give customers the option to remove ads from the screen for a 99-cent charge. The platforms on which the game will be available have not been revealed yet.
