While it's all but official Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Andrew Wiggins is headed to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Anthony Bennett - the purported second piece of the trade - may be interchangeable. Reports indicate in addition to Wiggins and Bennett, Cleveland is looking to trade Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson.
Wiggins going to Minnesota as part of the exchange for Kevin Love is a foregone conclusion. While the specific details of the potential trade are unknown, the growing thought is it's a three-team trade with Cleveland, Minnesota and the Philadelphia 76ers with Wiggins, Bennett, Love, a Cavaliers future first-round pick and 76ers forward Thaddeus Young all included in the deal.
Bennett, though, isn't a lock to be moved. Cleveland reportedly is willing to part with Waiters and Thompson, too, although it's uncertain how actively - if at all - they're shopping the two.
Waiters has been the subject of trade rumors since last season, when reports surfaced of his inability to get along with star Kyrie Irving.
As for Thompson, Hoops Rumors' Chuck Myron believes he will be gone - whether as part of the Love deal or in a separate one.
"The Cavs never seemed to hesitate to put him in the Love deal, but that's because they apparently want to contend right away," Myron wrote Monday. "I actually think the Love swap makes it less likely the Cavs will come to a new deal with Thompson, since there's little reason to keep two highly paid power forwards around. Thompson is a starter in this league, and he'll have to go somewhere else to do that."
Thompson becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer.
