NFL Fantasy Football 2014: HNGN’s Mock Draft 2.0 With 9th Overall Pick

Drafting has already begun for some leagues, but I know there are many out there waiting for the last possible moment to avoid any injury issues with training camp and/or preseason - don't worry, I am too. So here is HNGN's Mock Draft 2.0. I was given the 9th overall pick in a league of 12 participants, and again, delivered a near flawless draft (aside from when I panicked in the fifth round and time expired).

Below are the results from my ESPN Fantasy Football mock draft. As noted in the first article, I will be providing my draft selections as well as those directly before and after mine to give you all an idea of what types of players were being taken at certain spots. I'll also give my 'worst pick of the round' to help everyone know who not to pick, because you're already going to know exactly what to do by looking at my selections.

Round 1, Selection #9: Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin

Pick #8: Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson

Pick #10: Houston Texans RB Arian Foster

Worst Pick: Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacey - you can make an argument for him being a late first round pick after his great rookie campaign, but not at #4 overall (regardless where Matthew Berry has him ranked).

Round 2, Selection #4: New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees

Pick #3: Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray

Pick #5: St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy

Worst Pick: Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones - I'm a big Julio Jones fan and think the guy has all the talent in the world, I just wouldn't spend a mid-second round pick on a guy coming off of foot surgery. He hasn't even started practicing every day yet.

Round 3, Selection #9: Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb

Pick #8: San Diego Chargers WR Keenan Allen

Pick #10: Cleveland Browns RB Ben Tate

Worst Pick: Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson - I love Andre Johnson too, it's just that he's aging, wants to be traded, and there's not a solid starting QB in Houston. I would have rather taken another position here and gambled on a young WR later on.

Round 4, Selection #4: San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore

Pick #3: Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford

Pick #5: Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck

Worst Pick: San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Matthews - Have we still not learned, people?! Although his best year was in 2013, the Chargers like to mix it up and we can't rely on Matthews' health.

Round 5, Selection #9: New York Giants RB Rashad Jennings (panicked and the computer auto-drafted him).

Pick #8: Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey Smith (who I thought I was going to get and was then left to scramble.)

Pick #10: Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Floyd

Worst Pick: Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin - I know he's had a long time to recover, but it's still the season after ACL surgery and not many players are quite yet the same after such an operation. He has big shoes to fill as DeSean Jackson's successor after missing a whole year of football. Round 5 is too early.

Round 6, Selection #4: Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton

Pick #3: Minnesota Vikings WR Cordarrelle Patterson

Pick #5: New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley

Worst Pick: Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles - This round was tough because there weren't a lot of great picks, but I had to go with Foles. I think he has great potential, but I wouldn't invest in him as my starter because he took the league by surprise last year with Chip Kelly's new offense. Defenses around the league have likely been doing a lot of film study on it.

Round 7, Selection #9: Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams

Pick #8: Buffalo Bills WR Sammy Watkins

Pick #10: New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas

Worst Pick: Pierre Thomas - He's listed as the No. 3 running back on the Saints depth chart.

Round 8, Selection #4: Carolina Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams

Pick #3: Oakland Raiders RB Maurice Jones-Drew

Pick #5: New York Jets WR Eric Decker

Worst Pick: New Orleans Saints RB Khiry Robinson - I can't trust a backfield that plans on using three running backs (Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas as well).

Round 9, Selection #9: Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph

Pick #8: New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola

Pick #10: Minnesota Vikings WR Greg Jennings

Worst Pick: Danny Amendola - He hasn't been healthy in three years and his best year came in 2010 when he had 85 receptions for only 689 yards and three touchdowns.

Round 10, Selection #4: San Francisco 49ers Defense

Pick #3: Baltimore Ravens RB Bernard Pierce

Pick #5: Kansas City Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe

Worst Pick: Cincinnati Benagls RB Jeremy Hill - the No. 3 running back on the depth chart who left Saturday's preseason game with a shoulder injury. I'll pass.

Round 11, Selection #4: New York Giants WR Reuben Randle

Pick #3: Denver Broncos Defense

Pick #5: St. Louis Rams RB Tre Mason

Worst Pick: Tre Mason - He's now the No. 3 running back on the depth chart because Isaiah Pead tore his ACL this weekend and he's had a ton of trouble pass protecting. No coach will put in a rookie who is a poor pass protector.

Round 12, Selection #9: New York Giants RB Andre Williams (just to ensure my accidental Rashad Jennings pick; Williams looks like he could be the starter by Week 5 or 6).

Pick #8: Arizona Cardinals Defense

Pick #10: Kansas City Chiefs RB Knile Davis

Worst Pick: Houston Texans RB Andre Brown - He was cut.

Round 13, Selection #4: Seattle Seahawks K Steven Hauschka

Pick #3: Green Bay Packers K Mason Crosby

Pick #5: New York Giants QB Eli Manning

Worst Pick: Buffalo Bills Defense - They lost starting middle lineback Kiko Alonso for the year and safety Jairus Byrd in free agency. Defensive tackle Marcel Dareus also failed the teams conditioning test during the first week of camp.

Round 14, Selection #9: Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco

Pick #8: San Diego Chargers K Nick Novak

Pick #9: Oakland Raiders WR James Jones

Worst Pick: Since this is the last round that I'm identifying the 'worst pick', I will provide two: Oakland Raiders WR James Jones and Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw. Jones was signed by the black hole in the offseason and they haven't had a good offense in years; many WRs have disappeared in Oakland (see Moss, Randy and Walker, Javon). Bradshaw is an excellent back, but his injuries have hindered his ability to play. Now dealing with a neck ailment, how durable will he be for the whole year? He has yet to play in a preseason game.

Round 15, Selection #4: Pittsburgh Steelers RB Dri Archer

Pick #3: Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker

Pick #5: Cincinnati Bengals RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Round 16, Selection #9: Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon

Pick #8: Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz

Pick #10: Buffalo Bills RB Bryce Brown

So here are the results from HNGN's Mock Draft 2.0:

QB: Drew Brees

RB: Doug Martin

RB: Frank Gore

WR: Randall Cobb

WR: T.Y. Hilton

WR: Terrance Williams

TE: Kyle Rudolph

W/R/T: DeAngelo Williams

K: Steven Hauschka

DEF: San Francisco 49ers

BN: Rashad Jennings

BN: Reuben Randle

BN: Andre Williams

BN: Joe Flacco

BN: Dri Archer

BN: Josh Gordon
