Google is expanding its Street View library by adding images of Iceland's geysers and waterfalls in a beautiful 360 degree view.
Google, the world's largest internet search company, continues its adventurous journey to capture the world's most beautiful and popular destinations behind the Street View cameras. While the world is filled with several breathtaking tourist places, Iceland is filled with beauty at every corner. Google quoted Stephen Markley's "Tales of Iceland" in its Lat Long blog while narrating its adventure on the Emerald Isle.
Google started off with the Iceland's popular tourist spot in the southern part of the country, "Golden Circle," and its Street View team captured the famous Gullfoss Waterfall. The waterfall carried around 140 cubic meters per second of water at summer peak time and 80 cubic meters per second in winters. The 360 degree panoramic imagery of the magnificent view of the waterfalls can be found on Google Maps.
Google also captured other renowned tourist spots for the pleasure of armchair explorers. The Street View gallery was added with the panoramic images of the Haukadalur Geothermal Area, locally known as "Geysir." The team was in time to capture the panoramic shots of the Strokkur, a geyser which erupts up to 10 times a day.
The Street View team also captured Vatnajökulsþjóðgarður national park, which is full of hills, rocky paths and beautiful sceneries. The UNESCO site Þingvellir was also captured for the Street View imagery, mainly for its historical significance and natural beauty. Additionally, the team captured the waterfall located in the Vatnajökull National Park called Dettifoss, which is reportedly the most powerful waterfall in whole of Europe, and also the volcanic crater lake of Kerið.
Google has added some of the best places around the world to its Street View gallery. Places like Liberty and Ellis Islands, Combodia's Angkor Wat temples, more than 100 historical monuments in India, popular zoos from around the world, view from the top of the Eiffel Tower and many more are already a part of the Google's Street View. It serves as the best alternative to those who cannot take a trip to all these places at once.
