Amy Winehouse Remembered With Statue In Camden Town

Amy Winehouse will be remembered with a statue in the London neighborhood where she lived and worked before her death, The New York Daily News reported.

The late "Rehab" singer's family said the statue will be unveiled in Camden Town on Sept. 14, what would have been her 31st birthday.

The bronze memorial, designed by Scott Eaton, will stand in Camden's busy market, which draws tourists from around the world with its food, crafts, clothing outlets and street performers. It was originally going to be installed outside of the Roundhouse concert hall, but the singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, said the new site would need to be more accessible to her fans. Now, Winehouse will oversee the comings and goings of her home town forever, he said.

"The Roundhouse would have been great as Amy and the Foundation have a great affinity with the venue, but it would not always have been accessible for fans," Mitch Winehouse told The Telegraph. "We wanted people to be able to see it, touch and interact."

He added: "The family has always been keen to have a memorial for her in the place she loved the most, which will provide fans a place to visit and attract people to the area."

The memorial will include information on donating to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was set up by her family to raise awareness of the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

Winehouse died in her Camden home in July 2011 from an accidental alcohol poising at the age of 27.
