New Microsoft Program Could Gives Gamers Free Access to Games for 24 Hours

Microsoft will reportedly give Xbox fans the opportunity to play their favorite games for an entire day.

The offer was first mentioned in an image on Reddit as a new program that lets Gold subscribers demo certain games for 24 hours, according to Polygon.

"Yes I am in the preview program. I already own the game so it doesn't work for me. All it does for me is go to the store and I can select play from there because I already own it," the Reddit user wrote in the post.

Some free games are already provided by the Redmond, Wash.-based software giant through the Games with Gold program, in which gamers with a $60-per-year subscription to Xbox Live Gold can play two Xbox games for free each month, CNET reported. The new program, called "Free Play Day with Gold," would give players even access to even more titles.

This announcement comes while Microsoft continues its sales war with Sony's PlayStation 4. Sony said earlier this month that its console has sold over 10 million units around the world since it was launched last November. Microsoft announced in April that it has shipped 5 million units of its Xbox One console to retailers, but didn't mention numbers in sales.

When asked on Twitter if "Free Play Day with Gold" is really going to happen, the Xbox support Twitter account responded by saying "Looks like it is actually. We'll be in touch here shortly," CNET reported.

The Xbox support team followed up with another tweet, which also didn't provide much detail on the new program.

"It's something that we're currently looking into," the team said. "Keep an eye on your Xbox One."
