A frequent Target shopper and plus-sized blogger has created a campaign to boycott the store over its latest designer collaboration with Altuzarra, The Daily Mail reported on Monday.
Chastity Garner-Valentine spoke out on her blog, GarnerStyle, that the beautiful clothing offered in the new 50-piece collection, hitting racks on September 14, does not come in larger sizes.
"Year after year, season after season, you put out these gorgeous designer collections and you almost never include a plus range," Valentine wrote in a letter to Target. "Every time each of these collections is about to be released, it feels like a slap in the face."
Valentine added that six months ago, Target took most of the plus-size clothing out of its retail stores. Something new and improved has yet to come out, according to Valetine.
The blogger promises not to purchase any merchandise from Target until they include real plus-sizes in designer collaboration lines. Using the hashtag #boycottingtarget, she started a campaign against the store for other plus-sized women on social media who want the designer threads to feature larger sizes. The blogger did not distinguish what classifies as "true plus-sizes."
On Twitter, opinions of the boycott were mixed between users. Paisley Plus Size said she has always boycotted Target "because it's Target," but now she has another, even better reason to do so.
User IAmJustJustine said: "I'm excited about, and joining, the #BoycottTarget movement. @Target's clothing didn't fit me correctly."
Still, others lamented those that want to boycott the retail giant. Twitter user 42Galt said: "So the obese, illiterate, lazy, and entitled have decided to #boycottTarget. Sounds like Target will be a pleasant place to go from now on."
Another user, notagoodfatty, tweeted sarcastically: "I hate when companies only offer me hundreds of choices in store and thousands online!"
Notagoodfatty posted a screen shot of plus-size clothing options available on the store's website, though these pieces were not from a designer collection.
