Man Rides Stolen Cart to Visit Probation Officer

The lyrics of Chamillionaire's song "Ridin' Dirty" were proven true for one New Mexico man - except he was riding in a stolen electric shopping cart and he was on his way to visit his probation officer, according to KOAT Albuquerque.

Eighteen-year-old Michael Johnson met with his probation officer Monday at the Metropolitan Courthouse, but he committed a crime to get there: stealing and riding an electric shopping cart.

When the probation officer, Megan Cutler, asked Johnson where he got the cart, Johnson said he "took it from the Wal-Mart on San Mateo and Zuni," according to court documents.

Now Johnson is arrested and charged with larceny and receiving stolen property, according to KOAT Albuquerque. Johnson also violated his probation when he was arrested.

According to Albuquerque police, the cart could have been used by those who really needed it.

"The cart was worth over $1,800 and certainly it could have been used by those who needed it more than this man," APD spokesman Tanner Tixier told KOAT.

Johnson is being held on a $500 bond, and the Wal-Mart he allegedly stole the cart from is pressing charges, according to NY Daily News.

Johnson was arrested last year for battery against a household member and interference with communications, according to the Smoking Gun.
