A 24-year old man from Berlin, Germany experienced unexplained symptoms for 15 years until doctor's finally discovered a pencil inside of his head, reported The Guardian.
The man, who is originally from Afghanistan, complained to his doctor about having strange symptoms such as: bad headaches, blurred vision, and a discharge coming from his right nostril.
The doctor's performed a CT scan on him to figure out the cause and were surprised to see a four-inch No. 2 pencil had lodged itself in the back of the man's throat, causing damage to his eye socket.
The man was sent to Aachen University Hospital, which is the largest hospital in Europe, for treatment. Surgeons performed a successful operation to remove the pencil.
The man was released from the hospital after a few days, his only remaining symptom was blurred vision.
The memory of how the pencil got there is also pretty blurry, he does remember falling as a boy and getting a bad nosebleed afterwards.
The details of the case were explained in a German presentation this week.
This is not the first case of a person not knowing that there was a pencil stuck in their head. Margret Wegner, who was 59 in 2007, had an accident with a pencil when she was only 4-years old.
Wegner fell over while carrying a pencil, and the object went into her head.
"The pencil went right through my skin - and disappeared into my head," she said after the pencil was discovered.
In this case the surgeons, while able to remove most of the pencil, but had to leave behind a small piece that was four-fifths of an inch long.
In a more recent case, earlier this year a toddler from New Hampshire fell on an orange colored pencil and it lodged itself between her eye and the back of her skull, reported ABC News.
