The upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII” might be connected the other “Star Wars” universes after all.
Badass Digest reports inside sources claim the production met multiple times to discuss how the “Star Wars” universes will connect in Lucasfilm’s latest installment. The rumored goal of “Star Wars 7” is to create a cohesive universe to continue to build on in future installments.
“Marvel Studios has shown that multiple franchises can work together to tell one story,” according to Badass Digest, “and they’ve even played with a bit of transmedia by having Agents of SHIELD peripherally involved. But Star Wars is about to blow that out of the water; there have been big meetings setting the future of the Star Wars universe, and these meetings are going to impact everything we see from Star Wars moving forward. Everything.”
One “Star Wars” source told Badass Digest the production is attempting to “redefine longform storytelling.” The rumored expansive universe details go along with what “Star Wars 7” actor Adam Driver recently told GQ magazine. The “Girls” actor attempted to explain the film’s concept without giving away spoilers.
“The thing about Star Wars that’s so good—sure there’s this huge [canvas],” Driver told EW. “It’s space, it’s a long time ago in a galaxy far away. That’s set up immediately. But in the midst of all those things, what has made those movies last so long is that they’re all grounded, which is something that is not so far off from every movie with huge universal themes of siblings and parents and betrayal and trust. That’s so generic and obvious, but it’s hard to balance those things.”
“Star Wars: Episode VII” will be released to theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
