A Colorado couple was arrested for alleged child abuse after police found a 2-year-old girl in an unresponsive state after she had reportedly fallen from the stairs.
Sarah Finn and Paul Finn were in the process of adopting the child through the Fost-Adopt program. When the child was taken to a hospital in Colorado Springs, the doctors informed the police about the incident. An emergency room doctor at the hospital told police that the victim had bleeding in the brain and had injuries on her face and eyes. She also had severe bruises on her buttocks, the police said, reports The Pueblo Chieftain.
According to Pueblo police, fire and rescue personnel were called to a house on the 300 block of E. Orman Ave., where the girl was found in an unconscious state after having fallen down the stairs. Doctors said that the girl remains in a critical condition.
According to the officials, the Finns altered their stories multiple times during interrogations. Authorities issued a search warrant for the couple's house following which they were arrested. The couple now faces criminal charges. Sarah, 23, was charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, a class 3 felony; while Paul, 36, faces a charge of withholding proper medical care, a class 4 felony.
Police booked the couple into the Pueblo County Detention Center and the investigation continues.
