Premier League Schedule: Saturday Scores and Updates; Chelsea Remains Atop Standings

The second week of the English Premier League kicked off on Saturday with six matches. Five are complete while Everton and Arsenal are in the second half of their matchup.

Newcomers in this year's Premier League have yet to earn a victory. Leicester City fell to Chelsea 2-0 and Burnley lost 1-0 to Swansea City. Both Chelsea and Swansea earned their second wins in the first two weeks while Burnley and Leicester still remain winless. Diego Costa, Chelsea's new striker, scored again for the Blues to break a scoreless tie in the 62nd minute. Midfielder Eden Hazard netted an insurance goal in the 77th minute to ensure the victory. Swansea midfielder Nathan Dyer scored in the 23rd minute in the team's 1-0 victory.

Leicester and Burnley weren't the only teams who failed to score a goal on Saturday. Southampton and West Brom ended their match with a 0-0 draw as did Aston Villa and Newcastle. Southampton, West Brom and Newcastle have yet to earn a win after the first two weeks - Southampton fell to Liverpool 2-1 last week; West Brom drew with Sunderland 2-2; and Newcastle suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester City. Aston Villa is now third in the standings after today's draw and last week's victory over Stoke City.

Perhaps the most entertaining match of the day was between West Ham and Crystal Palace. The Hammers took the 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace thanks to goals from midfielder Mauro Zarate (34'), midfielder Stewart Downing (37'), and striker Carlton Cole (62'). Crystal Palace striker Marouane Chamakh cut West Ham's lead to 2-1 in the 48th minute, but Cole's goal shut the door on any comeback efforts. West Ham's win put them in fifth place behind Man City and in front of Arsenal.

But Arsenal is likely to move further down as they trail Everton 2-0 late in the second half. Defender Seamus Coleman added a header in the 19th minute for Everton and midfielder Steven Naismith added another goal just before the half to go up 2-0. Arsenal's clutch 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace last week shouldn't leave them with too much to worry about if they fall to Everton today. Everton drew with Leicester 2-2 last week and hope to earn three points with a credible victory on Saturday.
