Amazon Studios announced Monday that it has given the green light to the production of five new TV pilots, furthering the e-commerce giant's involvement in children's programming.
Three of the shows will be animated series, and the other two will be live-action series, according to TechCrunch. Amazon's film/TV production arm is allowing customers to provide feedback on the shows so it can determine which ones will become full series for Amazon Prime Instant Video.
The addition of the five series follows Amazon's announcement of three upcoming shows - "Tumble Leaf," set to debut Sept. 5, "Creative Galaxy," which will debut Oct. 3, and "Annedroids," which debuts Oct. 30. "Tumble Leaf" has already won an award at this year's Annecy International Film Festival.
The three animated shows include "The Stinky & Dirty Show," which focuses on a garbage truck and a backhoe that are best friends, "Buddy: Tech Detective," a whodunit based in preschool, and "Niko and the Sword of Light," which tells the story of a young adventurer, CNET reported. The two live-action shows consist of "Table 58," about a group of outcast kids who sit at the same lunch table, and "Just Add Magic," about friends who create magical recipes with help from an old cookbook.
The addition of the new pilots follows one year after Amazon's multi-year licensing agreement with Viacom, which granted the company the streaming rights to "Spongebob Squarepants," "Dora the Explorer" and other shows on Nick and Nick Jr., TechCrunch reported.
Top talent that have worked on "Phineas & Ferb," "My Little Pony," "Super Why" and other hit kids shows will also be involved in the new pilots.
Amazon's new shows will take part in the company's third pilot season of TV shows, which includes one additional pilot called "Sara Solves It," CNET reported. Amazon customers will be able to watch the five new pilots starting early 2015.
