A Connecticut woman allegedly left her toddler in a car Friday while she drank and fell asleep inside a bar, according to CNN.
Kelsey James, 22, was taken to Bristol Hospital after Bristol police officers responded to a call shortly before midnight Friday about an intoxicated woman sleeping inside City Sports Bar, according to a press released from Bristol police.
"Apparently talking to her, she was very incoherent. She tried breaking into a car that wasn't hers," Ron Philbrick, City Sports Bar general manager told WFSB. "At that point we called police in fear for her safety."
But the story wouldn't end there.
James began asking hospital staff the whereabouts of her 2-year-old daughter more than five hours later.
That's when police found James' car parked in the City Sports parking lot with James' 2-year-old daughter asleep inside.
The girl was taken to Bristol Hospital and held for child welfare authorities, CNN reported.
City Sports Bar server Courtney Lausier said James stumbled into the bar around 11 p.m. and was clearly intoxicated. Lausier also said she was surprised James was able to drive to the bar since "her eyes were barely open."
But neighbors paint a different story of James.
"Kelsey is a wonderful young girl; has a baby, is very responsible. The family is wonderful," Pam Drzewiecki told WFSB.
James was arrested Saturday and charged with risk of injury to a minor and leaving an unsupervised child in a motor vehicle, CNN reported.
CNN says James was released on a $50,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Bristol Superior Court on Sept. 2.
