MTV VMA's 2014: Miley Cyrus Retires From Twerking (VIDEO)

Miley Cyrus's twerking days are over.

The 21-year-old "Wrecking Ball" singer admitted that she has retired from twerking, while speaking to VMA pre-show hosts Lucy Hale and Sway on the red carpet at Sunday's 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. Her announcement follows the controversial performance from last year's show when she twerked on Robin Thicke.

Cyrus, who wore high-waisted leather pants by Alexandre Vauthier, revealed that she has been focusing on her music and promised that her next album will have a new sound; however, fans might have to wait longer than usual for its release, according to MTV News.

"I've retired [from twerking]," Cyrus said. "I'm making some music right now with The Flaming Lips. It's different. It's a little psychedelic. I live to be in the studio, that's my favorite part, is bunkering down, working on a record. This record might take me five years. I don't know. I'm just going to work on it until I'm done. It's not about twerking - it's about music."

While on the red carpet, the former "Hannah Montana" star also shared her opinion on Nicki Minaj's new video "Anaconda," which recently became the most watched video on VEVO in 24 hours - a record that was previously held by Cyrus for her hit "Wrecking Ball."

"She broke [the record]! I just found out in the car that she broke it," the singer said. "With that ass ... I ain't got that ass. I can bring that body, I can bring that wrecking ball, but I can't bring that ass. Not that Anaconda."

Cyrus won the Video of the Year award for her "Wrecking Ball" music video directed by Terry Richardson. The singer sent a young homeless man named Jesse to accept her award, and also to help raise awareness about homeless youth.
