Sam's Club Chicken Caesar Salads Recalled For Listeria

Over 90,000 pounds of cooked chicken Caesar salad kit products are being recalled by APPA Fine Foods, a company that supplies to Sam's Club, because they may contain listeria, Fox News reported on Monday.

The recalled products that were shipped nationwide are labeled as "11oz. clear plastic containers and 6.5-lb. boxes labeled, 'APPA Fine Foods/Sam's Club Daily Chef CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD' marked codes 141851, 141922, 141951, 141991, 142021, 142201 or 142131 and with use-by dates of 8/14/14, 8/21/14, 8/27/14, 9/1/14, 9/3/14 or 9/17/14," according to a USDA news release.

Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development workers reported they received two positive listeria results from products that were purchased at one of the warehouse locations in early August. The bulk warehouse chain sampled the components of the salad kits and found only the chicken came up positive for listeria.

Sam's Club has not received any reports of illness after consuming the salads, but anyone who is concerned about getting sick should contact a doctor.

Listeria inflection can cause fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, which can be preceded by diarrhea or other digestive symptoms. An invasive infection spreads and can cause miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery or life-threatening infections in pregnant women. The illness is treated with antibiotics.

Arrowhead Mills peanut butters and MaraNatha almond butters and peanut butters were recalled last week due to possible salmonella contamination.
