Premier League Standings: Tottenham Hotspur Overtake No. 1 Spot After Week 2

After Monday's game between Manchester City and Liverpool, the second week of the Premier League came to a conclusion. Tottenham Hotspur sit atop the standings one goal ahead of Chelsea and Man City.

Tottenham embarrassed the newly promoted Queens Park Rangers 4-0 on Sunday. Spurs barraged QPR with 18 shots on goal, including two scores from midfielder Nacer Chali (12', 37'), one from Eric Dier (30'), and the last by striker Emmanuel Adebayor (65'). The 4-0 victory immensely added on from last week's 1-0 win against West Ham, putting Tottenham in first place after Week 2 with six points and five goals.

But Chelsea and Manchester City are just one goal behind Tottenham after earning victories over Leicester City and Liverpool. Chelsea defeated the newly promoted Leicester squad 2-0 with goals from striker Diego Costa (for the second consecutive week) and midfielder Eden Hazard. Chelsea amassed 27 shots on goal with 10 on target. Man City defeated Liverpool handily on Monday with a score of 3-1. Man City players scored every goal - defender Pablo Zabaleta let in an own goal in the 83rd minute to break the 3-0 shutout. Striker Stevan Jovetic netted two (41' and 55') while fellow position player Sergio Augero scored within a minute of his substitution in the 69th minute.

Swansea City earned their second victory over newcomers Burnley F.C. 1-0 behind midfielder Nathan Dyer's first goal of the young season. Swansea is in fourth place with six points and three goals for, and two points ahead of fifth-place Arsenal who managed to pull out an improbable draw against Everton. Trailing 2-0 in the 83rd minute, midfielder Aaron Ramsey scored for the Gunners followed by striker Olivier Giroud in the 90th.

As for others, Manchester United disappointed again with a 1-1 draw against Sunderland. Things looked promising early on for Louis Van Gaal and co. when midfielder Juan Mata scored in the 17th minute, but Sunderland answered in the 30th with a goal from midfielder Jack Rodwell. The Red Devils have just one point after two weeks and a -1 goal differential, but they'll look to get their first win against Burnley, who are currently in 19th place in the standings.
